The only difference between the clay and glaze is the fusion point. For example, if I fire a riverclay found near us at the River Elbe at 1220°C, I get a beautiful layer of brown silk-matt glaze. However, if I fire at a lower temperature, I can make the typical northern German bricks from it. That´s why I can alter a clay´s characteristics with specific aggregates, just as I can a glaze. Several examples of unglazed surface finishes are pictured below. It´s important to me that no fingers or tools leave any marks behind.
